About me...

The Full Story

My name is Sarah. I am married and have 2 children. I also have dogs, guinea pigs and chickens. I grew up in the city and learned zero gardening skills. I always thought that it would be nice to learn to garden but I did not really have anyone to teach me. when I moved into my first house, I attempted flowers first. By flowers I mean the hard to kill perennials. One time, I even took a picture of the front of my house to the garden shop where they designed my garden for me. Of course, I bought all of those bushes and flowers from them. I came home and my husband helped me plant them. It looked really nice that year. Unfortunately, I did not know how to care for these plants and some died.  The ones that didn't die were washed away in a flood thanks to Tropical Storm Lee.

We moved a few years later and I suddenly decided to try gardening again except this time I wanted to grow food. The information I did not know then is amazing. I used regular topsoil; I did not fertilize or prepare the soil. My husband set up a timer for the watering so I would not forget to water them. I was able to grow some food, but I planted all of the plants too close, and our garden quickly grew out of control. I was in way over my head with what to do for my garden. I began to research. I read books, listened to books, I would scour youtube for information about gardening. Each year as I practiced, I learned more and more. I had so much information on gardening that I even wrote a book about it last year. I have grow lights hanging on my metal shelving unit in my garage. This is where I start seeds. My husband got me a small greenhouse, so I had a second phase of growing for my plants. I would move the seedlings to my greenhouse/tenthouse so they could continue to grow and became well established for planting time. Now I am trying to talk my husband into building me a true greenhouse from plans I purchased online...Wish me luck with that! That is my story on gardening. I hope you learn and enjoy this blog as much as I am enjoying writing it.
